A workshop for HWC team mentoring was held on 8th and 9th April at Bhavnagar. The main objective of this two days event was to identify the competencies required by HWC team members to perform their functions effectively. These competencies would then guide the content development for mentoring intervention.
This pilot on ‘team mentoring’ is planned at Bhavnagar in collaboration with Government Nursing College, Bhavnagar and the support from District health department. In this workshop, all the stakeholder organizations were represented, including- JHU-AIIMS Delhi team, IIPH-Gandhinagar, SHSRC, Gujarat, AIIMS-Bhuvaneshwar, Government nursing college, Bhavnagar, Government medical college, Bhavnagar, and health functionaries from Zilla panchayat and Municipal corporation at Bhavnagar.
The workshop comprised of presentations by experts on the past experiences from mentoring programs in India, and importance of team mentoring, group exercise to identify and list the functions expected from HWC team members, followed by another group exercise to enlist the competencies required for each of the identified functions. Operational plan for the pilot phase was also deliberated upon.
The workshop concluded with identification of the next steps for mentoring pilot that would include development of content based on six key competencies identified through consultation, and detailed designing of the intervention, including evaluation.
