A three-day training workshop was held in Bhavnagar, Gujarat for 20 mentors, from August 28th to 30th, 2024. The participants comprising AYUSH Medical Officers and Nursing Faculty. This workshop marked the first round of training for the Team Mentoring Program, aimed at developing the mentors’ skills on key aspects of mentoring sub-health center (SHC) teams at primary care level.
This first phase of training sessions covered three essential areas of the program – mentoring, building teams, and communication. The workshop used interactive methods through presentations, activities, and role-plays to promote hands-on learning. These sessions were facilitated by public health experts – Dr. Aboli Gore, Dr. Yogesh Jain, and Ms. Madhavi Misra and organized by Indian Institute of Public Health -Gandhinagar (IIPH –G).
A facilitator guidebook developed with resources and information on the modules for the next three months was given to the mentors and used to train.
Field Visit and Practical Training:
On the third day of the workshop, the mentoring team visited one SHCs each, in Bhavnagar district. During these field visits, mentor pairs conducted on-site mock mentoring sessions, engaging with the sub-health center team, and applying their skills in a real-life setting. After the practical training sessions, feedback was exchanged with the entire team. Experts also shared their observations on the mentor-mentee interactions.
Team mentoring pilot
Following this, a pilot in 20 SHCs is underway where the trained mentors are mentoring their assigned SHC teams according to the training they have received. The next training is scheduled for the end of November 2024.
