Orientation Workshop on Strengthening Early Detection of Hypertension and Diabetes in Fatehpur

Jhpiego, under the IPSI initiative, organized a district-level orientation workshop at the Office of the Chief Medical Officer, Fatehpur on 26th June 2025. The workshop oriented the attendees on the IPSI pilot intervention, which focuses on strengthening early detection of Hypertension (HTN) and Diabetes Mellitus (DM) through community engagement via Jan Arogya Samitis (JAS).

The meeting was attended by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Community Health Officers (CHOs), Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), Block Program Manager, Assistant Research Officer, District NCD Nodal Officer, and representatives from Jhpiego and IPSI-JHU.

Speakers from Jhpiego and JHU highlighted the growing burden of non-communicable diseases in Uttar Pradesh and emphasized the crucial role of frontline health providers in early screening, referral, and documentation. The CMO, Dr. Rajiv Nayangiri, emphasized on the importance of regular community screening by CHOs and ANMs and the need to link these efforts with the broader health system. The Jhpiego team outlined the pilot’s strategies, with a special focus on the role of JAS in mobilizing communities and strengthening accountability.

The workshop concluded with a planning session, where priorities and coordination mechanisms were discussed. Going forward, clinical trainings for CHOs and ANMs and orientation sessions for JAS members will be rolled out. The pilot will be implemented in 10 AAM facilities in Bhitaura block as the intervention site, with Bahua block serving as the control, supported by baseline and endline assessments.
