A state-level sensitisation meeting for senior officials was held on 16th April 2025 in Bhubaneswar, chaired by Dr. D. Brundha, Mission Director of the National Health Mission (NHM). The meeting focused on reviewing current efforts and discussing future strategies to strengthen primary health care in Kalahandi, Odisha, under the IPSI project. Attendees included representatives from NHM, SHSRC, AIIMS Bhubaneswar, AIIMS New Delhi, and Johns Hopkins University (JHU).
During the meeting, Dr. Binod Kumar Patro (Principal Investigator, AIIMS Bhubaneswar) oriented state officials on the point of care quality improvement (POCQI) model, and ACT-QI intervention aimed at addressing gaps in the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes and hypertension within the NCD care cascade in Kalahandi district. The intervention is implemented in two blocks: Junagarh (intervention block) and Jaipatna (control block), across three phases – formative, intervention, and evaluation. It covers all health facilities within the selected blocks, including all PHCs-AAM and SHCs-AAM.
The meeting concluded with a strong commitment from NHM leadership to support the implementation of this initiative, ensuring active involvement from district and block-level teams.
Following this, a district-level sensitisation and stakeholder consultation was held on 17th April 2025 in Bhawanipatna, Kalahandi. The meeting brought together important district officials, including the CDM&PHO, ADPHOs, DPMU officials, BPHOs, BPMs, and BDMs, along with teams from AIIMS Bhubaneswar, AIIMS New Delhi, and JHU.
Participants were oriented on the ACT-QI intervention. The session focused on planning and coordination for the implementation of the initiative. Discussion points included identifying facilitators for quality improvement (QI) teams, establishing a district technical committee to oversee and approve activities under the initiative, and determining timelines for the formative phase and baseline assessment.
