One of the focus areas of the IPSI is to support NQAS certification of primary healthcare facilities and improve the comprehensive primary health care in the district of Bhavnagar. To facilitate the learning among district program managers and service providers about the best practices within the State, exposure visits were organized under the IPSI project.
Sabarkantha district has notable success in NQAS certification of primary healthcare facilities, particularly the sub-health centres. Although the Bhavnagar district has achieved maximum NQAS certifications for primary health centres; the district needed assistance in initiating the same process for sub-health centres. Therefore, Sabarkantha district was suggested by state authorities for the exposure visit.
10 representatives from the Bhavnagar district health department, including the quality managers, staff from select SHCs that are planning to apply for NQAS visited Sabarkantha on 10,11 June 2024. They were accompanied by faculty and IPSI project team from IIPH, Gandhinagar. The visit included brief up meeting at the CDHO Office and visit to 4 Facilities in a span of 2 days.
Bhavnagar team learnt the good practices at Sabarkantha, namely- use of checklist for successful certification- color coding of the check-points to divide and prioritize the work, uniform signages, master sheet of files/ documents- aligned with NQAS checklist at the facilities, and a supportive role of the district management team.
