A cross-learning visit was organized for the Meghalaya Health Department team and Indian Institute of Public Health- Shillong (IIPHS) to Bhavnagar, Gujarat, from July 14-16 July 2025. The purpose of the visit was for the Meghalaya team to observe the SATHI Mentoring Program currently being implemented at the Sub-Health Centre (HWC) level and draw insights into the Coaching pilot being planned at the PHC level in Meghalaya.
The visit provided a platform for team-based learning, exchange of strategies, and first-hand observation of SATHI’s approach to strengthening health teams’ coordination, communication, and performance at the primary care level.
The key objectives towards this visit were:
- To observe SATHI mentoring sessions at Ayushman Arogya Mandir (AAM) facilities.
- To interact with AYUSH mentors, ASHA workers, and nursing faculty to understand field-level challenges and successes.
- To understand the design and structure of the SATHI modules, including training strategies, feedback mechanisms, and attendance monitoring through KOBO forms.
- To explore the adaptation of SATHI modules for Meghalaya’s Coaching Program, with emphasis on PHC-level mentoring.
- To establish peer-learning collaborations between Bhavnagar and Meghalaya teams for sustained knowledge exchange.
As part of the cross-learning visit, the team observed mentoring sessions at different sites, covering six HWCs (Bambhaniya, Avaniya, Dundas, Khatdi, Lakhanka, Vallabhipur 3), where they interacted with the CHOs, ANMs, and ASHA workers to understand the practical implementation of SATHI modules. The Meghalaya team also observed Mamta Diwas (VHND) activities at multiple Anganwadi centres (such as Nari Gam Anganwadi No. 2 and Fulsar Anganwadi 1) and at UPHC Akholo, where sessions on maternal and child health, immunization, nutrition counselling, and growth monitoring were being conducted.
The visit concluded with a discussion with Bhavnagar Nursing College and IIPH-Gandhinagar faculty on module delivery, challenges, and success stories.
