All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi (AIIMS)
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi (AIIMS) has been identified as the national partner organization for the JHU-IPSI project. AIIMS New Delhi, will facilitate the planning and implementation of the project and liaise with the state governments by establishing a Health Policy and Systems Research Unit as a part of this project. The Unit will convene meetings for policy dialogue and advisory group meetings, undertake background work to generate evidence for policy meetings, with the JHU team as part of the IPSI projects, and develop policy briefs if required. The Unit will also facilitate workshops and stakeholder consultations towards implementation of the project and assist in the training needs assessment for PHC related trainings, co-plan and develop appropriate courses with JHU, and conduct training of trainers for these courses using online platforms.
About AIIMS
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi (AIIMS) was established in 1956 as an institution of national importance by an Act of Parliament to develop patterns of teaching in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education in all its branches, so as to demonstrate a high standard of medical education to all medical colleges and other allied institutions in India. It aims to bring together, in one place, educational facilities of the highest order for the training of personnel in all important branches of medicine and health, and to attain self-sufficiency in postgraduate medical education. The Institute has comprehensive facilities for teaching, research, and patient care. AIIMS is also the only medical institution from India in the top 1,000 degree-granting institutions of higher education worldwide according to the Centre for World University Rankings.
The Centre for Community Medicine (CCM), AIIMS continues to provide technical support to national health programmes including training, development of resource materials and field-based activities. CCM has conducted faculty development workshops on Operational Research under the Human Resource Development, Health Research Scheme of the Government of India. It was designated as the National Centre of Excellence and Advanced Research on Anaemia Control and re-designated as the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Capacity Development and Research in Community-Based Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Prevention and Control. The Centre has collaborative projects with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Atlanta to elucidate the epidemiology of acute respiratory infections and viral pathogens in India. The CCM has established and co-ordinates the MINERVA (Mortality in India established through Verbal Autopsies) network, an online cause of death coding platform for the Registrar General of India (RGI) office under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
